1. KEY JOB SUMMARY

The Hemodialysis technician is responsible for operating the Hemodialysis machines and handling dialyzers and reverse osmosis (RO) system.

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1. FUNCTIONS SPECIFIC TO ASSIGNED SECTION (HEMODIALYSIS)

2.1.1. Set-up and prime Hemodialysis bloodlines and dialyzer needed for patient’s treatment

2.1.2. Ensure proper labelling, reuse process, and maintenance of patient’s dialyzers as indicated in the Dialyzer Handling Protocol

2.1.3. Document pertinent data to Hemodialysis Machine Daily Monitoring Record form

2.1.4. Conduct scheduled RO sanitation

2.1.5. Conduct and record daily monitoring of RO system to RO Daily Monitoring Sheet form

2.1.6. Clean and sanitize dialysis treatment areas based on schedule following Housekeeping Protocol

2.1.7. Clean Hemodialysis machines and treatment chairs after use of each patient and on a routine basis following Housekeeping Protocol

2.1.8. Facilitate water sample for periodic water analysis as scheduled

 

2.2. ADMINISTRATIVE

2.2.1. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of Hemodialysis machines and RO system as required apart from quarterly every January, April, July, and October; and annually every December

2.2.2. Document and record maintenance of Hemodialysis machines and RO system

2.2.3. Report to Head Nurse all necessary records, data, and problems needing immediate attention

 

1.    KEY JOB SUMMARY

The Hemodialysis Nurse is tasked to assist with kidney dialysis treatment, monitor their patient’s fluid balance, and advise patients about their care 

2.    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1.  TECHNICAL (GENERAL PATIENT CARE)

2.1.1.        Assist patients with kidney failure through Hemodialysis treatment

2.1.2.        Initiate, monitor, and terminate Hemodialysis treatment

2.1.3.        Work closely with other medical staff to ensure that the patient is safe while undergoing Hemodialysis treatment

2.1.4.        Refer any concerns, complications, laboratory values to the Attending Nephrologist/In-House Physician

2.1.5.        Discuss patient’s concern and conduct health teaching

2.1.6.        Review patient’s laboratory schedules (routine laboratories and Hepatitis profile) and remind them of next due

2.2.  FUNCTIONS SPECIFIC TO ASSIGNED SECTION (HEMODIALYSIS PATIENT CARE)

2.2.1.        Pre-dialysis Procedure

2.2.1.1.        Follow Hemodialysis order and treatment plan

2.2.1.2.        Verify machine and dialyzer

2.2.1.3.        Take Vital Signs

2.2.1.4.        Weigh patient

2.2.1.5.        Calculate amount of fluid to be removed

2.2.1.6.        Assess patient’s access

2.2.2.        Initiation of Dialysis

2.2.2.1.        Perform venipuncture of AVF/AVG access or proper catheter access care

2.2.2.2.        Set Hemodialysis parameters to Hemodialysis machine

2.2.2.3.        Hook patient to Hemodialysis machine

2.2.3.        Intradialytic Monitoring

2.2.3.1.        Monitor patient’s status and his/her vital signs

2.2.3.2.        Record pertinent data to patient’s chart

2.2.3.3.        Manage intradialytic complications and refer to In-House Physician

2.2.4.        Post-dialysis Procedure

2.2.4.1.        Terminate procedure

2.2.4.2.        Take Vital Signs

2.2.4.3.        Weigh patient

2.2.4.4.        Complete and fill-out necessary data to patient’s chart

2.2.5.        Emergency Case

2.2.5.1.        Coordinate with In-House Physician and Attending Nephrologist

2.2.5.2.        Coordinate transfer of patient to partner institutions
